HBO Max and Discovery+ to Merge Into Single Streaming Service

Let’s hope HBO Max subscribers enjoy reality shows, as the AT&T WarnerMedia and Discovery merger will result in a still unnamed streaming platform that will combine HBO Max and Discover+ into a single service.

The new streamer may also include content from CNN. The new streaming service will launch in the United State in the summer of 2023, while other regions will launch in 2024.

On Thursday, Discovery CEO David Zaslav told investors that the new service would combine HBO Max and Discovery+. Previously it was reported that the service might also contain content from CNN. In May of 2021, AT&T’s WarnerMedia merged with Discovery in a $43 billion deal.

NBC News notes that separately, the two services have 92 million subscribers. Warner Bros. Discovery hopes to reach 130 million subscribers globally by 2025.

A free, ad-supported version of the streaming platform is being considered. HBO Max currently offers an ad-supported tier of service, which costs $10 per month.

Warner Bros. Discovery announced in 2021 that they would engage in cost-cutting initiatives, with the aim to save more than $3 billion after two years. The company says it hopes to pour those funds back into creating streaming content.
