We’ve heard plenty of rumors that the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models will replace previous versions’ much-maligned screen notch with a pill-shaped cutout. Some have said there will be a pill-shaped cutout next to a separate hole-punch cutout, but now it seems there will instead be one long cutout.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has tweeted that the two cutouts will look like “one wide pill-shaped cutout.” Apple will deactivate the pixels in the dead space between the two cutouts to emulate a unified cutout. Gurman says distinct cutouts would “look odd” when the iPhone is in use.
This is true. It looks like one wide pill shaped cutout. Having that separation would look odd during use. https://t.co/SrAtYQsENx

The new pill-shaped cutout will not connect to the top of the device, but it will look similar to the notch.
Reportedly, only the iPhone 14 Pro models that are getting the new pill-shaped cutout, while standard iPhone 14 models will continue to use the notch.
