Apple on Wednesday released watchOS 8.7.1, a minor update to the watchOS 8 operating system. The new update comes a bit less than a month following the release of watchOS 8.7, and contains bug fixes for Apple Watch Series 3 models, and is limited to being available only on the Series 3.
watchOS 8.7.1 can be downloaded for free through the dedicated Apple Watch app on the iPhone by going to “General” -> “Software Update.” The Apple Watch Series 3 needs to have at least 50% battery charge, needs to be on a charger and needs to be in the range of the iPhone.
The watchOS 8.7 update is only compatible with the Apple Watch Series 3 and later.
Apple’s release notes for the update say the watchOS 8.7.1 update fixes a bug that could cause the Apple Watch Series 3 to unexpectedly restart for some users.
