Apple Fixes Studio Display Speaker Issue With Firmware Update

Apple has released an updated version of its 15.5 Studio Display firmware. The new update, which comes a bit more than two months after the original update, has a build number of 19F80, compared to the original update’s build number of 19F77.

Apple’s release notes for the update confirm that it addresses an issue with the Studio Display speakers.

Studio Display Firmware Update 15.5 (19F80)

  • Resolves an audio issue with Studio Display

Requires macOS Monterey 12.4 or later.

Users of the Studio Display, have complained about the display’s speaker quality. Apple last week sent out a memo to authorized service providers which acknowledged the issue and advised a temporary fix of disconnecting the monitor from power and other devices for ten seconds, then powering-up again.

Today’s firmware update is said to fix the issue, but we haven’t heard anything from Studio Display users as to whether the issue is indeed fixed.

The Studio Display firmware can be updated by connecting it to a Mac macOS Monterey 12.4 or later, then going to System Preferences -> Software Update to install the firmware.
