Netflix today announced that it is rolling out a new spatial audio experience for the Netflix content catalog, thanks to a partnership with Sennheiser.
The new feature will use Sennheiser AMBEO technology to enhance stereo audio with an immersive surround sound experience that is compatible with all devices, all streaming plans, and that does not require surround sound speakers or home theater equipment.
Netflix spatial audio helps to translate the cinematic experience of immersive audio to any stereo, so the work creators do to bring you into the story happens no matter what device you use to watch Netflix. Spatial audio will roll out across our catalog beginning today, and you can hear it for yourself by typing “spatial audio” into the search bar and selecting a show or film that supports it in the search results. This magical combination of sight and sound will bring viewers closer to the story, and we’re excited to add this capability to other features we support like 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos®, and Netflix Calibrated Mode.
The feature will allow spatial audio on devices that normally do not support the feature. The new feature is separate from the spatial audio support that has been available on spatial audio-compatible Apple hardware since August 2021, The feature is intended for users without devices that already support the spatial audio feature.
Netflix says spatial audio is in the process of rolling out across the Netflix content catalog starting today, and shows and movies that support spatial audio can be found by typing “spatial audio” into the search bar.
