Bloomberg’s Gurman: Apple Watch’s Low Power Mode ‘Still in Development’ for watchOS 9

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said on Sunday that the Apple Watch‘s much-rumored expanded Low Power Mode is still in development and on track for release sometime around the public release of watchOS 9. Gurman’s remarks came in his Power On newsletter.

The Apple Watch already offers a Power Reserve mode that displays only the time to preserve the Watch’s battery life. The expanded Low Power mode would allow for the use of apps and other features while the Watch is in Low Power mode.

Gurman first mentioned the expanded Low Power mode was in development back in April. However, Apple did not announce the mode while previewing watchOS 9 during June’s WWDC keynote address.

Gurman says that Apple could announce the new Low Power Mode at a later date. Apple is expected to release watchOS 9 in September, alongside the release of the Apple Watch Series 8, a new rugged version of the Apple Watch, and a new SE model.
