Bloomberg’s Gurman: ‘Apple Watch Pro’ Extreme Sports Model Could Carry Near $1,000 Price Tag

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman writes in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, that Apple’s much-rumored rugged Apple Watch for extreme sports could be priced on-par with the current iPhone 13 Pro.

Gurman says he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the new Apple Watch model costs around $999, which is the same starting price as the current iPhone 13 Pro. Pricing for the current titanium Apple Watch Edition starts at $849.

Given that the new high-end Apple Watch will pack in a slightly larger display, new sensors and higher-end materials, I wouldn’t be surprised if it starts closer to $900 to $999, the starting price of an iPhone 13 Pro. We’re only a couple months away from finding out exactly where Apple lands.

The new tier of the Apple Watch will be more rugged and will be aimed at athletes, hikers, and others that may use their Apple Watch in extreme conditions. It is said to feature LTE, a larger screen measuring in at almost two inches diagonally, and a metal casing that’s better able to stand up to abuse.

Gurman proposes various names for the new device – Apple Watch Extreme, Apple Watch Max, Apple Watch Explorer Edition – but he believes that the model will adopt the ‘Pro’ moniker in line with its other higher price-point products.

Gurman also mentioned that the Apple Watch‘s much-rumored expanded Low Power Mode is still in development and on track for release sometime around the public release of watchOS 9.
