Apple on Monday released the first-ever public beta of its HomePod Software 16 update. This is the first time Apple has seeded a HomePod beta to public beta testers.
The HomePod Software 16 update is available from Apple’s beta site after installing the iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 software updates. After iOS 16 or iPadOS 16 is installed, users can go to the Home app, select the Settings option, and choose Software Update.
HomePod users can then enroll their HomePod mini in the beta program. The HomePod Software 16 beta is only available for the HomePod mini and is not compatible with the larger and older HomePod smart speaker.
As always, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas on their daily driver HomePod mini. Instead, only install betas on a speaker set aside for testing purposes.
