Popular instant messaging platform Telegram earlier this month announced that it was working on a “Premium” subscription option for those users looking for a bit more from their Telegram usage. Today, Telegram Premium became available to users around the world.
Telegram became one of the top-5 downloaded apps worldwide in 2022 and now has over 700 million monthly active users.
According to the messaging service’s blog post, Telegram Premium subscribers can unlock doubled limits, 4 GB file uploads, faster downloads, exclusive stickers and reactions, improved chat management – and more.
The Premium subscription adds extra features that enhance the messaging experience, while at the same time, keeping current Telegram features free for all users.
Telegram Premium offers support for larger files. Any Telegram user can send and receive files up to 2GB. For Telegram Premium subscribers, the upload limit is doubled to 4GB. Although only Premium subscribers can upload 4GB files, anyone can download and open the files. Telegram Premium users will experience faster upload and download speeds than regular users.
Telegram Premium members will also see double the limits when it comes to groups and channels, pinned chats, public links, and saved GIFs. Each premium user will be able to join up to 1,000 groups and channels (up from 500), while the limit for favorite saved GIFs increases from 200 to 400.
Other premium features include a built-in voice-to-text message converter, unique stickers and reactions, a new chat manager that lets users create custom folders, animated profile pictures, custom app icons, and a profile badge to highlight who’s a Premium subscriber.
As for free users, there are some updates coming their way also. Public groups can now add a “Request to Join,” button so that group administrators can review members before letting them write into the chat. The platform is also expanding its verification program for groups, channels, and bots.
Telegram Premium is now being rolled out to users. The subscription costs $4.99 per month.
