While iPhone users with an Apple Watch have long been able to track their activity via the Fitness app. However, iOS 16 will make the app even more useful for those not owning an Apple Watch.
iOS 16 will use your iPhone’s motion sensors to track your activity, keeping tabs on steps, distance, and third-party workouts, providing an estimate of your calories burned.
You can set a daily move goal and use the iPhone to track your progress toward reaching the goal. The updated Fitness app does not require an Apple Watch or another kind of activity tracker and aids iPhone users who are sans an Apple Watch who would like to be more active.
The Fitness app, while looking similar to the Fitness app available to Apple Watch owners, does not include a Fitness+ tab as that feature is reserved for the Apple Watch. It also does not have Stand and Exercise rings.
