AT&T Raising Price of Older Unlimited Plans – New Plans Unaffected

AT&T will be raising the price of its legacy “Unlimited” plans. The move is apparently designed to nudge its customers to upgrade to the cellular carrier’s newer plans, says a Bloomberg report. Affected customers can expect a $6 per month hike, while affected family plans will increase by as much as $12.

AT&T offers three unlimited plans: the Unlimited Starter Plan, Unlimited Extra Plan, and Unlimited Elite Plan. The price hike will apply only to customers that are grandfathered in under older rate plans.

Currently, base prices are priced starting at $65 for a single line or $35 for four lines as part of a family plan. AT&T has told its employees to offer new plans to customers who call to complain about the rate hike for older plans, which will go into effect in June.

Customers that will be affected by the hike will receive an email from AT&T about the change.

AT&T says the newer plans are a better deal, as they offer “many additional features, more flexibility for each line on their account and, in many cases, a lower monthly cost.”
