Image assets and hidden code that have been discovered in the WeWork app code indicate that the firm is working on adding Apple Wallet support for the WeWork Access Card.
The code, discovered and shared by MacRumors, reads “add to wallet button tapped,” suggesting that a future version of the WeWork app will integrate with Apple Wallet using the Office Key feature.
Apple Watch users could benefit from Office Key support, as it would allow them to use their Apple Watch to gain access to WeWork locations. The feature would not require users to have the “Background Location” permission turned on for the WeWork app.
At the unveiling of iOS 15 last year, Apple announced the new Wallet features that allow users to add hotel, car, and office keys for one-tap access. Employees of companies that support the Office Key feature can add their corporate access badges to the Wallet app to use them to unlock office doors. Tenants and employees at the World Trade Center were among the first to have access to this technology.
