Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has tweeted that Apple could debut its first truly full-screen iPhone in 2024. The “iPhone 16 Pro” could be the first Apple handset to feature an under-display Face ID and an under-screen front camera.
I think the real full-screen iPhone will come in 2024. High-end iPhones in 2024 would adopt an under-display front camera alongside the under-display Face ID. A low-light condition is detrimental to front camera quality, and ISP & algorithm are critical for quality improvements. https://t.co/vWjeZYZUPK

Kuo’s tweet links to a previous tweet in which he agreed with display analyst Ross Young’s who said that under-screen Face ID is coming to the iPhone 16, while Touch ID is no longer in the plans.
My prediction is the same – under-display Face ID coming in 2024 (iPhone 16), and this time schedule is less of a technical issue and more of a marketing purpose. https://t.co/yK17YkQEEX

Kuo’s earlier tweet suggested that Apple’s roadmap for adopting under-display Face ID in 2024 was “less of a technical issue” and was more likely a marketing decision. However, his latest thoughts on the matter appear to suggest that current hardware and software limitations could also be a factor in the decision.
Apple’s higher-end iPhone 14 models are expected to debut this fall while lacking the much-maligned display notch, replacing it with a pill-shaped cutout as well as a hole-punch camera.
