Apple was the only major smartphone manufacturer to see a year-over-year increase in shipments last quarter. Competitors Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, and others saw steep declines in their mobile smartphone shipments.
Strategy Analytics, Canalys, and IDC have shared their reports of smartphone shipments for the last quarter. While the reports all differ in exact numbers and estimates. however, all three reports agree that Apple was the only maker to have experienced growth in the last quarter.
Canalys says Apple saw growth of 8% compared to the same quarter last year, grabbing 18% of the total market share. While Apple continues to lag behind Samsung in overall market share. however, Samsung experienced a decline of 4% in the last quarter. Meanwhile, Strategy Analytics says other Android smartphone makers – including Oppo and Vivo – saw 29% and 30% drops respectively in their market share.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said during Thursday’s fiscal Q2 2022 earnings call that demand for the iPhone 13 lineup remains strong and the company expects demand to continue. Apple, as well as other phone makers, has been dealing with ongoing supply chain issues, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns in China.
