WhatsApp is testing out a larger 2GB cap for file transfers between users of its instant messaging platform. That is quite an increase over the platform’s traditional 100MB file size limitation.
WABetaInfo reports that Meta’s messaging platform service has been testing a new 2GB file size limit for some users in Argentina over the last few days.
The new 2GB limit should improve the messaging platform’s attractiveness when it comes to sharing large files like video clips and other media files types. All files are transferred via WhatsApp’s usual end-to-end encryption.
While no official announcement has been made about any pending wide rollout of the file transfer increase, WhatsApp has performed localized testing of new features before rolling them out to all users, so we may see an increase for all users in the near future.
