Ming-Chi Kuo: M1-Powered MacBook Air Still on the Way for 2022

Even though Apple debuted a new Mac at yesterday’s media event, it’s never too early for a Mac rumor, right? Right? Well-respected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has provided some advanced information about the MacBook Air, which should see a refresh during 2022.

Kuo says the new MacBook Air will go into mass production in the second or third quarter this year, will boast a new form-factor design, more color options, will likely be powered by an M1 chip, and will not have a mini-LED display.

The new MacBook Air is expected to be thinner and lighter than the current model, and will likely be available in color option similar to the 24-inch iMac color options, which includes blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple. The new laptop is also rumored to feature off-white bezels and a matching off-white keyboard.

While we’d previously heard rumors that the new MacBook Air would feature an updated M2 chip, Kuo says the Air will be powered by a possibly modified M1 chip.

Kuo says that mass production should begin on the new ‌MacBook Air‌ late in the second quarter of 2022 or in the third quarter of the year.
