40% of iPhone Users Intend to Purchase the Third-Generation iPhone SE

A survey by SellCell says 40% of iPhone users intend to purchase the third-generation iPhone SE.

24% of those intending to buy the third-gen iPhone SE plan to use the handset as their primary device, while 16% plan to give it as a gift or use it as a secondary device. 10.9% plan to buy the device for a child, 10.2% plan to buy it for their partner or spouse, and 7.8% plan to buy it for a family member such as a parent or grandparent.

Most buyers say they’re planning to purchase the iPhone SE because of its price point, while 15.2% are buying it for its 5G connectivity, 11.3% are attracted because of its compact form factor, and 6,7% still like the Touch ID Home Button.

iPhone 11 owners account for 11.5% of users planning to replace their handset with the new iPhone SE. 6.8% are planning to upgrade from the ‌iPhone‌ XR and 6.7% are upgrading from the iPhone 12. It should be noted that there is an intent across users of all iPhone generations, from the ‌iPhone‌ 6 through to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Of those that have no plans to buy a third-generation iPhone SE, 66.2% said that they are still happy with their current ‌iPhone‌ model, 9.3% are waiting for the iPhone 14 lineup to launch, 4.1% say that the device is too small, and 3% say that it is not premium enough.

SellCell’s survey asked 2,549 adult ‌iPhone‌ owners in the United States about their thoughts on the third-generation ‌iPhone SE‌. SellCell’s full survey breakdown is available here.

Apple is expected to unveil the third-generation iPhone SE at Tuesday’s Apple Event. It is expected to look similar to the current model, which resembles an iPhone 8, but it will boast a faster A-series chip (likely the A15), and will also boast 5G connectivity and an improved camera.
