Some macOS 12.2 Users Say Bluetooth-Related Issue Draining Battery During Sleep Mode

Apple released macOS Monterey 12.2 last week, and some Mac users that have installed the update are finding that their Mac’s battery is experiencing excessive battery drain during sleep mode, apparently due to Bluetooth accessories constantly waking the computers.

Users have reported the issue in various online forums, including the MacRumors ForumsReddit, and Twitter over the last several days, but it is unclear how widespread it is.

Users say their Mac’s battery life drops from 100% to 0% while in sleep mode overnight since updating to macOS 12.2. A few users investigated and found that Bluetooth accessories are frequently causing a “DarkWake from Deep Idle” that results in the Mac repeatedly waking from sleep, which drains the battery. The issue seems to be afflicting both Intel-based Macs and M1-based Macs.

Users report that disabling Bluetooth on their Mac or disconnecting all Bluetooth accessories are disconnected from the Mac fixes the issue, but this is not really an ideal solution.

Apple seeded the first beta of macOS 12.3 earlier this week, but it is not known if the new beta fixes the Bluetooth waking issue.
