Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has released his latest Power On newsletter, and in the new edition, he says he expects a redesigned iPhone 14 with a hole-punch display, a redesigned MacBook Air with an M2 chip, an iPad Pro with wireless charging, and more.
Gurman asserts that at least some iPhone 14 models will boast a hole-punch design, which will allow the device to get rid of the traditional iPhone screen notch. The new handset’s Face ID system would likely be mounted under the display.
A new MacBook Air will debut with an improved “M2” chip that will be marginally faster than the M1 chip, says Gurman. He expects the M2 chip to boast an 8-core CPU with a 9-core or 10-core GPU.
Gurman also expects a smaller Apple silicon version of the Mac Pro desktop tower to launch this year with up to a 40-core CPU and 128-core GPU, as well as a new Mac mini and a new larger iMac.
Gurman says that Apple will complete its transition from Intel processors to its own custom-designed chips in Macs this year. Apple had said the changeover would take around two years to be completed when it first announced its plans in June 2020.
Gurman said that Apple’s long-awaited AR/VR headset could be announced during WWDC 2022. However, he also cautioned that the launch timeframe for the product has been pushed back in the past.
Gurman also sees Apple releasing a new iPhone SE with 5G, an iPad Pro with wireless charging support, a more rugged version of the Apple Watch, and more during 2022.
