2022’s iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro max will boast hole-punched LTPO OLED display panels supplied by Samsung and LG, says Korean site The Elec.
Constant rumors this year have claimed the 2022 iPhone won’t have a notch, beginning back in March, when Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple will adopt a hole-punch design, which is similar to the one used by numerous Android handsets.
The hole punch design is a center-placed cutout for the front-facing camera that provides a larger display area, thanks to the lack of a notch.
Kuo said the high-end iPhone Pro models will have the hole-punch design, with the feature possible expanding to all 2022 iPhone models if yields are good.
Other rumors have claimed that while the Pro models will sport a punch-hole design, the non-Pro models will continue to sport a notch, limiting the punch-hole display usage to the Pro models. There will not be an “iPhone 14 mini” claim the reports, meaning this year’s iPhone 13 mini will be the last small handset to sport the “mini” moniker.
The Elec says Samsung will supply all of the hole-punched panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, while sharing orders for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max with LG Display for the first time.
Samsung supplied the notched LTPO TFT OLED panels used in both Pro models in this year’s iPhone 13 series.
