Apple made the watchOS 8.3 and iOS 15.2 release candidates available to developers this week. The new updates enable ECG functionality for Apple Watch users in China. The ECG feature was approved by Chinese regulators over the summer, reports ITHome.
Wearers of the Apple Watch Series 4, Series 5, and Series 6, can take an ECG by running the ECG app and placing a finger on the Digital Crown. The Apple Watch, using its built-in array of sensors, reads the electrical impulses from the user’s heart. It can detect if the wearer’s heart is out of rhythm, possibly indicating atrial fibrillation.
Apple Watch users in Australia and Vietnam gained ECG functionality earlier this year.
watchOS 8.3 and iOS 15.2 are currently available to developers and public beta testers and are expected to be launched to the public in the near future.
