Apple is planning to entirely revamp its Apple Watch lineup for 2022, with an update to the Apple Watch SE and new sports-centric Apple Watch. That information comes via well-connected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.
Gurman’s comments came in this week’s Power On newsletter. Gurman said that the 2022 Apple Watch lineup will include the Apple Watch Series 8, as well as an update for the Apple Watch SE.
The Apple Watch SE was released in September 2020 and has since served as a mid-range option for Apple Watch customers. While the SE features a design similar to the Apple Watch Series 6, it lacks advanced features such as an always-on display, blood oxygen sensor, and ECG functionality.
Apple usually offers its “SE” devices for several years without an update. Since Apple did not update its SE model this year, it could be due for an update in 2022. Gurman did not specify what new features might be available for the 2022 Apple Watch SE, but it could feature a slightly updated design, along with improved health features.
Apple is planning an entirely new Apple Watch aimed at sports athletes, says Gurman. He says that the new Apple Watch, will feature a “ruggedized” design that may feature a case that’s more resistant to scratches, dents, falls, and more.
