Apple is revamping its Apple Music app on macOS Monterey 12.2 as a fully native application based on AppKit. Apple on Thursday released the first beta seed of macOS Monterey 12.2 for testing by developers.
As first noted by Twitter user Luming Yin, the beta contains a new version of Apple Music backed by AppKit instead of web views.
The rebuild should provide a faster, more fluid, and more responsive experience for users. The macOS Catalina version of Apple Music held onto the iTunes backend, which loaded web content for display inside the app. Building the app with AppKit viewing will make Apple Music a fully-native application.
Although Yin also mentioned a similar rebuilding of the Apple TV app for macOS,
Although Yin said that a similar rebuilding of the Apple TV app for macOS would be taking place. However, 9to5Mac has reported that the Apple TV app in macOS Monterey 12.1 has already been rebuilt with the new AppKit.
