Apple Temporarily Halts Sales in Turkey Following Currency Crash

Apple has temporarily halted sales of its device in Turkey, following the deepening of the country’s economic crisis on Tuesday morning.

Turkey’s lira nosedived more than 15% on Tuesday after President Tayyip Erdogan defended recent rate cuts and vowed to win his “economic war of independence”, despite widespread criticism and pleas to reverse course, reports Reuters.

Currently, the Apple Turkish storefront is still operational, but shoppers cannot add items to a virtual shopping cart or purchase items at this time.

At the time of this article, a Turkish lira is equivalent to approximately 0.086 U.S. dollars. Its value has been steadily falling since last week. Over the course of the last year, the Lira has dropped 45% vs. the dollar.
