Apple today announced that its next special event will be held on Monday, October 18 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. It is widely expected that Apple will use the online-only event to unveil new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models.
While we’ve seen plenty of rumors state that the new MacBook Pros will feature mini-LED display technology, a new rumor from today indicates the new MacBook Pros’ displays will also feature a 120Hz refresh rate for the first time.
Ross Young, an analyst for Display Supply Chain Consultants, tweeted that the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will feature mini-LED display technology as well as support for 120Hz refresh rates. The new MacBook Pro displays are expected to be “scaled up 12.9-inch iPad Pro” displays, says Young.
Panel suppliers are the same between the iPad Pro's and MacBook Pro's – LG Display and Sharp. Expecting similar technology – oxide backplanes, miniLED backlights and 120Hz refresh rates. MiniLEDs, 100% confirmed.

Young has previously been right on display-related predictions for upcoming Apple products. Recently, Young correctly predicted the exact screen size of the new iPad mini 6.
Young hedged his bet just a bit, tweeting that mini-LED is “100% confirmed,” indicating the 120Hz part of his prediction may be delayed.
