Report: Supply Chain Indicates Apple Watch Series 8 to Include Blood Glucose Measurement

A new paywalled report from DigiTimes claims Apple’s suppliers are currently developing next-generation sensors for the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 that will allow users of the upcoming device to measure their blood glucose levels.

DigiTimes says Apple and its suppliers are working on short-wavelength infrared sensors, which is a commonly used sensor type for health devices. The new sensors will enable the device to measure the amount of sugar in a wearer’s blood.

While the Apple Watch has added more comprehensive health features over the years, such as a blood oxygen sensor, heart rate sensor, daily activity sensors, ECG measurement, and more.

Apple has long been rumored to be working on blood glucose measurement functionality for an upcoming Apple Watch Series. A recent report from The Wall Street Journal says blood glucose level is one of many multiple health metrics Apple is working to add to the Watch. However, WSJ also reports that Apple is facing some challenges in making the capabilities work properly.
