M1 Max Powered 16-inch MacBook Pro Features New High Power Mode

Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M1 Max Apple Silicon chip will boast a new “High Power Mode” to handle resource-intensive tasks. The new feature, shared by MacRumors and confirmed by Apple, will be included with the highest-end configurations of the new large Mac laptop.

“High Power Mode” is the opposite of the “Low Power Mode” on the MacBook Pro, which is designed to reduce system performance to prolong battery life. The new mode is exclusive to the 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip. The 14-inch model and models powered by the M1 Pro chip will not have the feature.

Text found within the macOS Monterey beta reads, “Your Mac will optimize performance to better support resource-intensive tasks. This may result in louder fan noise.”

The new mode will not be used in typical day-to-day work cases, unless your daily work involves the rendering of larger files or graphically intensive tasks.

Apple says the new MacBook Pro models both include improved thermal architecture, but that the new and improved cooling fans will not likely kick on during day-to-day use.
