Apple Updates AirPods 2, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max Firmware to Version 4A400 – Adds Updated ‘Find My’ Integration

Apple on Tuesday released new firmware updates for the second-generation AirPods, the AirPods Pro, and the AirPods Max. All three models have been updated to 4A400 firmware, up from 3E751 for the standard ‌AirPods‌, 3E756 for the ‌AirPods Max‌, and 3E751 for the ‌AirPods Pro‌.

Also released was new firmware for the Beats Solo Pro, Powerbeats 4, and Powerbeats Pro.

While Apple doesn’t officially announce information on what’s included in the firmware update, but reports indicate that the update adds expanded “Find My” integration that was first promised by Apple as an iOS 15 feature back in June.

There isn’t any way to manually update the firmware of the earbuds, and the new software will be installed over-the-air while the AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max are connected via Bluetooth to an iOS device.

If you place the AirPods in their case, connecting them to a power source, and then pairing them to an iPhone or iPad, they should update after a short period of time.

Here’s how to check the firmware version of your AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max earbuds:

  1. Make sure your Airpods are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or ‌iPad‌.
  3. Tap “General.”
  4. Tap “About.”
  5. Scroll down to ‌“AirPods,” and tap that.
  6. Read the number next to “Firmware Version.”
