The new iPhone 13 lineup is available and it features a design quite similar to the iPhone 12. However, there is one small change the means your iPhone 12 cases won’t fit your new precious.
9to5Mac made some calculations as to the similarities and the differences in measurements of the two iPhone lineups. Here’s what they found.
iPhone 12 cases with iPhone 13
The dimensions are the same between the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 :
- Height: 5.78 inches
- Width: 2.82 inches
- Thickness: 0.30 inches
And here are the dimensions of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro:
- Height: 5.78 inches
- Width: 2.82 inches
- Thickness: 0.29 inches
While the measurements above are close to identical, the camera bump on the back of the iPhone 13 has been redesigned and is larger on the iPhone 13. This means that the iPhone 12 cases will not fit your new iPhone 13 handset.
There is a similar issue with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini. Again, changes in the camera capabilities and their accompanying bump cause the cases designed for the iPhone 12 mini to not fit the iPhone 13 mini.
iPhone 12 mini dimensions:
- Height: 5.18 inches
- Widgets: 2.53 inches
- Thickness 0.29 inches
iPhone 13 mini dimensions:
- Height: 5.18 inches
- Widgets: 2.53 inches
- Thickness 0.30 inches
It’s the same story with the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Because of changes to the camera bump design, iPhone 12 Pro Max cases will not fit the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

- Height: 6.33 inches
- Width: 3.07 inches
- Thickness: 0.29 inches
iPhone 13 Pro Max dimensions:
- Width: 3.07 inches
- Height: 6.33 inches
- Thickness: 0.30 inches
These minor changes all mean that your iPhone 12 cases will not fit your new iPhone 13. Luckily, between Apple’s first-party cases and the options offered by third-party case makers.
