Apple today announced it will hold a digital event on Tuesday, September 14 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time (1:00 p.m. Eastern Time). The event will be held at Steve Job Theater, which is located on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.
The new event will be held digitally, with no in-person attendees. We can expect to see pre-recorded segments for each new product unveiling.
The event is probably the first of multiple events that we’ll see in the next few months. Last year Apple launched products at three separate events in three months in 2020, raising expectations of seeing something similar this year. Rumors have suggested that we’ll see at least two Apple events this fall, with both possibly taking place during September. However, it is more likely that we see the second event take place in October or sometime a bit later.
While last year’s September event focused on the Apple Watch Series 6, with the iPhone 12 unveiling taking place in October, due to COVID-19-related delays, we expect to see both the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 debut at next week’s digital shindig. We may also possibly see Apple’s AirPods 3 make an appearance.
While Apple is expected to soon announce new MacBook Pro models and new iPad, we’ll likely see those make an appearance at an event or events later this year.
We expect Apple’s iPhone 13 lineup to be similar to the current iPhone 12 lineup, with a few external design changes as well as performance improvements. Apple is expected to release a 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13, a 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max.
While the new iPhone 13 lineup will look similar to the iPhone 12, we are expecting to see improvements to the cameras, a smaller screen notch, a larger battery, a faster A15 chip, faster 5G connectivity, and possibly a 120Hz ProMotion display for the “Pro” models.
The Apple Watch Series 7 is widely expected to sport the first real redesign in years, with a flat-edged design, a new lamination technique that will bring the display closer to the front cover, and larger casing sizes, increasing to 41mm and 45mm, up from 40mm and 44mm. A faster S7 chip is expected, and there could be a larger battery. Unfortunately, no new health sensors are expected for this year.
The third-generation AirPods are expected to boast a design closer to the current AirPods Pro, and silicone tips are a possibility, although the new earbuds will lack active noise cancellation.
Apple plans to stream the fall event live on its website, on YouTube, and on the Apple TV through the Apple TV app.
MacTrast will provide full coverage of the event. See you there.
