Ninth Generation iPad Expected to Debut This Fall – Will Boast Faster Processor and Thinner Design

Apple plans to update its entry-level iPad this fall, debuting a new ninth-generation model tailored towards students, boasting a thinner design and an improved processor, says Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The base iPad was last updated in September of last year, with a faster and more powerful A12 Bionic chip. The base model starts at $329, or $299 for education customers. The base iPad is designed for educational use and for day-to-day usage.

The ninth-generation iPad is likely to stick somewhat to the current design, featuring a Touch ID-enabled Home button. However, the new iPad is expected to feature a thinner form factor, as well as improved performance and graphics.

The iPad debut will be a part of a busy fall season for Apple, as it is also expected to debut its iPhone 13 lineup, new Apple Watch models, AirPods, MacBook Pros, and an updated iPad mini with smaller bezels and a larger display.
