Apple’s major assembly partner Foxconn will take on the additional task of assembling iPhone camera components instead of just fitting completed camera modules.
Apple’s 2022 iPhone models are expected to use a new unibody system. Foxconn has reportedly now been charged with assembling lens and other components, rather than buying finished camera modules from other companies.
The Elec reports that Foxconn is buying camera module inspection equipment from South Korean firm Hyvision System. That equipment is specifically designed to inspect the alignment of image sensors, wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses.
Apple has long bought pre-assembled camera modules from various firms, including LG InnoTek. Hyvision System is reportedly also providing inspection equipment to LG InnoTek, this time specifically relating to 3D time of flight modules.
