14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro to Use Same M1X Processor, Says Leaker

Leaker Dylan says Apple’s upcoming Apple Silicon-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro will use identical M1X processors. Dylan has a decent track record when it comes to predictions like this.

Traditionally, in Intel-powered Macs, Apple reserved the use of the fastest processors to larger, higher-end models. As mentioned by 9to5Mac, the current 13-inch Intel MacBook Pro, for example, has a top-end configuration of a 2.3GHz i7 processor; Iris Plus GPU; 32GB RAM; and 4TB SSD. The 16-inch model’s top-end includes a 2.4Ghz i9 processor; Radeon Pro 5600M; 64GB RAM; and 8TB SSD.

Initially, Dylan said on Twitter that the two machines would have the same “performance,” but later clarified that he was only referring to the M1X chip, which will be full power for both models.

It’s comforting to note that both MacBook Pro’s that are coming this fall will have the same chip and the same performance. It’s definitely a win for those who like to opt for the smaller size […]

Just so that everyone understands, I am referring to the 16 and 14 inch pros both having the same M1X.

The possibility of different GPU and storage options is still up in the air. However, since RAM is integrated into the CPU, it may be that the same options there would apply to both models.

Dylan warns that the 16-inch machine would see “a notable increase in price” over the current 13-inch. The existing M1 model 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,299, while the Intel version starts at $1,799.

All leakers have mixed track records, but Dylan was proven correct in the past with his tweets about both the new M1 iMac and the 2021 iPad Pro.
