Today’s iOS 14.7.1 & iPadOS 14.7.1 Updates Include Security Fix & Touch ID Apple Watch Bug Fix

Apple today released iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1, which contain security and bug fix updates that come just a week after the release of iOS 14.7.

The iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1 updates are free and are available as an over-the-air update on eligible devices, in the Settings app. To access the new software, go to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Software Update.

An Apple support document says the software addresses a serious security vulnerability that may have been exploited in the wild.

Available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation)

Impact: An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.

Description: A memory corruption issue was addressed with improved memory handling.

CVE-2021-30807: an anonymous researcher

Apple’s release notes for the updates reads as follows:

iOS 14.7.1 fixes an issue where iPhone models with Touch ID cannot unlock a paired Apple Watch using the Unlock with iPhone feature. This update also provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.

Apple recommends that all users immediately install the iOS and iPadOS 14.7.1 updates.
