A report from Nikkei Asia says Apple will begin mass production of its third-generation AirPods in August. The new earbuds will hit store shelves before the end of the year.
Various rumors have pointed to different launch dates for the AirPods 3. While some (incorrectly) indicated the new earbuds would launch during the first half of 2021, others indicated that the second-half of 2021 was a more likely launch frame.
If mass production does indeed kick off in August, they could be launched as early as September, possibly making an appearance alongside the new iPhones. However, Apple may wait until closer to the end of the year to unveil them.
Apple’s third-generation AirPods are said to adopt a design similar to the Cupertino firm’s current AirPods Pro. They are expected to feature shorter stems and feature silicone ear tips for a customizable fit. However, they would lack some of the “Pro” features, such as Active Noise Cancellation.
