New iOS 15 and watchOS 8 Betas Allow Users to Install Software Updates with Less Available Storage

Apple on Wednesday released the third betas of iOS 15 and watchOS 8. While the new operating systems have already been found to contain numerous new and improved features. Notably, the latest beta of each OS fixes an issue users had in installing updates when their device is low on storage.

Apple’s release notes for the latest build of iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and watchOS 8, which can be found on the Apple Developer website, say that today’s updates fix an issue that could prevent users from installing system updates with low available storage on the device.

Here’s what Apple says:

Software Update

Resolved in watchOS 8/iOS 15 beta 3: You can now update your device using Software Update if less than 500 MB of storage is available. (78474912)

While Apple doesn’t mention any targeted devices, the change is likely targeted at owners of the Apple Watch Series 3 who found that it was difficult to install watchOS updates on the Series 3, as the GPS model has only 8GB of internal storage. Series 3 users were forced to reset and re-pair their Apple Watch in order to install software updates.
