Apple Updates Dark Sky Weather App on iPhone and Apple Watch

Apple on Tuesday updated its popular Dark Sky weather app, bringing improved VoiceOver support, improved complications on Apple Watch, and bug fixes and performance improvements. The update is the first since November 2020.

Apple’s full release notes for Dark Sky version 6.8.6:

• Improved VoiceOver support
• Complications on Apple Watch update more frequently
• Addresses an issue that could prevent the moon phase from updating
• Stability and performance improvements

Apple acquired the Dark Sky app in early 2020, and it shut down the Android version of the app later that year.

Dark Sky announced in an update to its blog earlier this month that “support for the Dark Sky API service for existing customers will continue until the end of 2022.” The iOS and web apps will also remain available until the end of 2022.

It was originally planned to shut down the Dark Sky web app alongside the Android application. However, that was delayed indefinitely. Numerous third-party iOS weather apps use the Dark Sky API, and they will be able to continue functioning through 2022 before needing to migrate to a new API.

The revamped Weather app on iOS 15 includes live weather notifications, graphical displays of weather data, full-screen maps, and more.
