Apple is reportedly readying Apple Pay for a launch in Israel in May. Local reports indicate that after several false starts, Apple Pay is finally ready to launch in the Middle Eastern country.
Hebrew-language site Calcalist reports that, barring a last-minute change, Apple is expected to launch the contactless digital payment system in the country during the first week of May.
While reports have several times over the past year hinted at a pending Apple Pay launch in Israel, there hasn’t been a launch. Calcalist says the infrastructure in the country has been ready for Apple Pay for some time. However, delays related to coronavirus-related closures in the country, as well as the desire to make sure that enough businesses can accept the payment method.
