iOS 14.5 Beta Code Reveals Powerful ‘A14X’ Chip Expected to Power New iPad Pro Models

Apple released the fifth beta of iOS 14.5 earlier this week, and in the code have been found references to an as-yet-unreleased “A14X” chip, which is expected to power the company’s upcoming new iPad Pro models.

The latest iOS 14.5 beta, released on Tuesday, includes a mention of a “13G” GPU. Such a designation has not been used on past or present A-Series chips, says 9to5Mac. “13G” is believed to be a next-generation variant of the A14 system-on-chip design that has been tentatively dubbed “A14X” and is anticipated to power a redesigned iPad Pro line.

The “A14X” design is based on Apple’s T8103 SoC, claims the report. T8103 was the first Apple Silicon chip, used in the M1 MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini, all released last year.

The report also claims Apple’s internal codenames for the upcoming iPad Pro line are J517, J518, J522, and J523.

Apple is expected to launch a new iPad Pro line with updated internals in the near future, possibly as soon as April.
