DigiTimes: OLED 10.9-inch iPad Could Hit Shelves in Early 2022 – 12.9-Inch iPad Pro and 16-Inch MacBook Pro Could Soon Follow

On Thursday, DigiTimes shared a report claiming that Apple is working on iPad and MacBook models with OLED displays which could hit shelves starting in 2022.

The report claims that the first OLED screened device is likely to be a 10.9-inch iPad, possibly an iPad Air. The new iPad is allegedly targeted for production beginning in the fourth quarter of 2021, hitting shelves in early 2022. Apple is also said to be considering OLED displays for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

The sources pointed out that the first device to come with an OLED panel is likely to be a 10.9-inch ‌iPad‌, set to begin volume production in the fourth quarter of 2021 for an official release in 2022.

The US brand reportedly is also considering adopting OLED panels for its 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ and 16- to 17-inch MacBook Pro scheduled for release in 2022, but have not made a final decision, the sources noted.

In addition to OLED displays, Apple is also rumored to be transitioning some of its iPad and MacBook models to mini-LED displays, and DigiTimes claims that the two display technologies will exist side-by-side, “each targeting different customer groups.”
