Apple TV+ Lands Rights to Sci-Fi Courtroom Drama ‘Dolly’ Starring Florence Pugh

Apple TV+ has purchased the rights to the science fiction courtroom drama “Dolly,” an upcoming new film starring Florence Pugh. The film is said to have sparked a competitive bidding war, eventually won by Apple.

In “Dolly,” a companion “doll” robot kills its owner. The doll then shocks the world by claiming that she is not guilty and asking for a lawyer. The film, which based on Elizabeth Bear’s short story of the same name, includes elements of both classic courtroom drama and sci-fi.

Deadline reports the project is not greenlit at this time as the script still needs to penned and a director still needs to be attached. Apple battled three other bidders, including multiple movie studios and another streaming platform in addition to Apple TV+.

Pugh, known for her roles in “Midsommar” and “Little Women,” will take the lead role. Vanessa Taylor and Drew Pearce will write the script.
