Apple last week seeded the watchOS 7.3 Release Candidate to developers for testing. The release notes for the RC includes mention of a new “Time to Walk” feature for Apple Fitness+ subscribers, described as “an audio experience in the Workout app where guests share inspiring stories as you walk.”
Apple Fitness+ subscribers will have the ability to open the Workout app on their Apple Watch and select “Time to Walk.” They will then select from one of a variety of audio stories to listen to during their walk. As noted by MacRumors, the feature will also likely be available to wheelchair users.
A screenshot shared by Twitter user Othmane, shows that the feature will include a 30-minute story from singer Shawn Mendes at launch. Othmane says other stories will be available from Dolly Parton, NBA star Draymond Green, and “Orange is the New Black” actress Uzo Aduba. The stories are not yet accessible but should become available when the software update becomes available to the public, likely this week.
Users can toggle on their Watch’s ability to download new Time to Walk stories to their Workout app as they become available. Stories will be downloaded when the Apple Watch is connected to a charger and near a paired iPhone. The stories will be automatically deleted as the related workouts are completed.
