AirPods Max Warranty Replacements Don’t Include Ear Cushions Unless Necessary

If you need a warranty replacement for your new AirPods Max headphones, you likely won’t receive new ear cushions as part of the replacement.

9to5Mac reader Damien Menn shared a pair of images showing what the AirPods Max warranty replacement process is like. Damien experienced an issue with the AirPods Max Digital Crown, and Apple replaced the entire pair of headphones — with one exception.

Menn’s AirPods Max replacements sent by Apple did not include replacement ear cushions. This required Menn to take the cushions from his faulty AirPods Max and use them with his new pair. This appears to be a cost-cutting move on Apple’s part, as a new set of AirPods Max ear cushions go for $69 at retail.

While there will likely be situations where Apple will include new ear cushions when needed, don’t expect them to send new ones unless the issue is with the cushions themselves. Then Apple could simply send you a new pair of cushions since they’re magnetic and can be easily replaced.

A recent report indicated that a growing number of AirPods Max owners are complaining of issues with condensation in the ear cups. Users that have used the headphones for a prolonged amount of time say they are seeing noticeable condensation inside the ear cup.

The condensation reportedly happens no matter what the temperature is, and while some users are seeing it after several hours of use, others say they see it in just an hour or two. Since the AirPods Max is not water-resistant, users are understandably concerned that the condensation may affect the life of the headphones.
