AirPlay 2 and HomeKit Support Finally Rolling Out to LG 2018 Smart TVs

As promised back in September, LG is finally rolling out AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to its 2018 OLED Smart TV models. The Korean electronics firm made the Apple TV app available for the sets back in September.

MacRumors reported on Monday that many of its readers had successfully enabled both AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on their LG 2018 TVs. If you haven’t yet seen it on your 2018 LG set, be patient, as it appears to be rolling out in stages, and there doesn’t appear to be a way to force the update to happen.

AirPlay 2 support allows Apple users to beam content – including video, music, and photos – via AirPlay 2 from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to their LG TV, just like it already does when using an Apple TV.

The update’s HomeKit support allows users to control their television using Siri voice commands or via the Home app on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Siri commands allow users to play specific shows or movies via AirPlay to the LG smart set.

LG initially promised to bring AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to its 2018 OLED Smart TVs back in April, but then backtracked on its promise in September, before again reversing course and promising the update was indeed on the way.
