A report by Korea’s ETNews (shared by Patently Apple) says that LG will be supplying Apple with mini-LED displays for new iPad models that will launch in the first quarter of 2021. The report claims LG will likely begin mass-producing the display panels at the end of the year.
Numerous rumors of a mini-LED iPad Pro have circled the rumor bowl for quite a while now. In September, a report from DigiTimes said Apple will launch a 12.9-inch mini LED-backlit iPad Pro in early 2021, along with a mini LED-backlit MacBook during the second half of the year. Well-connected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple will produce new mini-LED iPads in the first half of 2021.
mini-LED display technology uses individual LEDs that offer an improvement over traditional LED-backlit displays, with performance comparable to OLED displays. The new display technology can offer deeper, darker blacks, brighter brights, richer colors, and better contrast.
Although Apple last updated the iPad Pro in March 2020, it was a minor refresh, leaving plenty of room for a bigger update a bit farther down the line. The update brought an A12Z Bionic chip, a new Ultra-Wide camera, studio-quality mics, and a new LiDAR Scanner.
