A Chinese Weibo account that goes by the moniker “Kang” has posted allegedly accurate information for every product set to debut at the Tuesday, October 13 Apple event. The post includes information about the much-rumored smaller form-factor “HomePod mini” speaker.
An image of the original Chinese-language post has been tweeted by the leaker Ice Universe, who has proved to have accurate information on previously unreleased Apple products.
The leak claims the official name of the new smart speaker will be “HomePod mini” and will be priced at $99. The size of the speaker is reportedly 3.3-inch high, which is just slightly less than half the 6.8-inch height of the original HomePod. The new speaker is said to be powered by the same S5 processor used in the Apple Watch Series 5 and Apple Watch SE.
The HomePod mini will allegedly hit shelves on November 16-17. In related news, Bloomberg scribe Mark Gurman says the new smart speaker could boast two tweets in place of the seven used in the current model, in a move to keep costs low.
