Well-known leaker @L0vetodream says Apple AirTags are “coming soon,” and will be available in two different sizes. The cryptic leaker earlier today tweeted about the much-rumored tile-like product.
The initial tweet simply read ‘big one, small one, coming soon.’ This, of course, led to a great deal of speculation online about the tweet’s meaning .
Some replies suggested the leaker was referring to a Mac mini and an iMac as the first two Apple Silicon Macs, while others speculated that it was referring to Apple Silicon MacBooks. Other guesses were the AirPods Studio headphones and a next-gen AirPods Pro offering, as well as large and small AirTags.
A few hours later, @L0vetodream solved the mystery by tweeting to confirm the reference was to AirTags.
Larger and smaller versions of the AirTag would make sense, as users could place small tags inside their wallet or on a keyring, while using larger versions for their luggage or a camera bag. (Larger AirTags would have a longer battery life, while smaller versions would require more regular charging.)
Apple’s AirTags are expected to go one better than products like the Tile, and use Ultra-Wideband radio for extremely-precise location finding, within inches. The new tags are also expected to use all iOS devices as passive trackers for the tags, increasing the likelihood of a lost item being reunited with its owner.
Many rumors expect the new AirTags to debut alongside Apple’s Silicon Macs at an event expected to take place next month.
The @L0vetodre4am prediction conflicts with that of another noted leaker Jon Prosser, who recently said AirTags have been delayed until March 2021. However, Prosser later backtracked on the statement.
