Apple Removes the Apple TV Remote App for iOS From the App Store

Apple Removes the Apple TV Remote App for iOS From the App Store

Apple has pulled the standalone Apple TV Remote app for the iPhone and iPad from the iOS App Store. The software has apparently been discontinued, as all references to the app have been removed from the App Store and Apple’s website.

9to5Mac:

“The app is no longer available for download from the App Store and Apple has likely discontinued it, which means that it will no longer get any updates. A 9to5Mac reader told us that he contacted Apple support to ask about the app, but not even the support agent could explain what happened.”

The move will not actually have much impact on users as the app’s functionality is duplicated by the Apple TV Remote feature that has been available in the Control Center has since iOS 12.

The standalone app and the Control Center widget both allow users to navigate the tvOS user interface without the need to dig the physical Apple TV remote from between the cushions of their couch. The Control Center software also offers support for tilt-based gaming, media controls, multiple Apple TVs, and more.
