Apple Leader Tim Cook: ‘This Year Has a Few More Exciting Things in Store’

During today’s fourth fiscal quarter 2020 earnings call, Apple CEO teased listeners by staying that while he didn’t want to give too much away, “this year has a few more exciting things in store.”

While Cook was being coy, he was likely referring to an announcement that may occur at another much-rumored Apple event in November, which would unveil the first Apple Silicon Mac. In June, Apple promised the first Apple Silicon-powered Mac would arrive before the end of this year.

No one knows for sure what Mac model will be the first to be granted Apple Silicon, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said it will be a notebook model. Other rumors have suggested the new Mac will be anything from a new 13-inch MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air, to a revived 12-inch MacBook.

Rumors also suggest the A14X chip will power the first Apple Silicon-based Mac. The new processors are said to have 12 cores, with eight high-performance cores and at least four energy-efficient cores. Apple is also said to be exploring offering Mac processors with more than 12 cores farther in the future.

Since he said “things” Cook could also be referring to other new rumored products, including Apple’s Tile-like AirTags Bluetooth trackers and the much-discussed AirPods Studio high-end headphones.
