We’ve previously heard rumors and seen alleged photos of a new braided Lightning to USB-C cable that will ship with Apple’s new iPhone 12 later this fall. New images provided by leaker “Mr. White” now give us a close look at what we might expect to see when we open the box.
As seen above, the photos show a USB-C to Lightning cable that has a braided design rather than the standard non-fabric design of the current cables. Braided cables are traditionally more durable than the standard rubber-coated cables that are included with current iPhone and iPad models.
Apple offers a braided Thunderbolt Pro cable, a black braided Lightning cable that ships with the Mac Pro, and a braided power cable for the HomePod. However, it will be a first for iPhone cables, as the Cupertino firm has never included a braided cable with iPhones or iPads.
The new braided USB-C to Lightning cable may be the only accessory that ships with the iPhone 12. Multiple rumors suggest the new iPhone 12 models will not include a power adapter or a pair of EarPods inside the box. If such a move is made, it will save money for Apple on both packaging and shipping.
